Around the world in 80 weeks in an electric car
A new UK challenge is taking shape for The Green Strip Guy.
Between 1 October and the end of November 2026, I’m planning to drive around mainland England, Scotland and Wales in my Volkswagen e-UP!, visiting 705 Wetherspoons pubs in 60 days.
The rules are deliberately simple: no islands, no airport pubs and nothing inside the M25. The London and M25 pubs can become a separate challenge another day.
At every stop, the aim is equally simple: one cup of tea, one photo and then on to the next pub.
The challenge is called T700. There may currently be 705 qualifying pubs, but pub estates change all the time, so T700 feels right — short, memorable and in the spirit of routes such as the NC500.
This is not just about visiting pubs. It is also going to be a serious training run for #360in360.
The route will cover thousands of miles in a small electric car and will involve charging, route planning, working on the road, sleeping around the country, creating daily content and keeping everything moving for two months.
The route itself is being designed as one continuous ribbon around Britain rather than simply ticking pubs off county by county.
Starting in Taunton, I’ll head west to Minehead, follow the north Devon and north Cornwall coast towards Penzance, then turn east along south Cornwall and Devon before continuing along the south coast.
From there the journey will work its way around Britain, up the east coast, around Scotland, down through the North West and Wales, then back through the centre of England and eventually towards the South West again.
Where practical, I’ll also be using my Pedibal bike for the final part of the journey into town centres — parking the e-UP!, cycling to the pub, having the tea, taking the picture and then heading back to the car.
There are some very obvious potential partnerships too.
Wetherspoon themselves could potentially support the tea and stays at some of their hotels. Twinings, whose tea is served in Wetherspoon pubs, feels like another natural fit.
I already use equipment from companies including EcoFlow, DJI and City Plumbing, while charging networks, David Lloyd clubs and occasional Sunday-night Premier Inn stays could all become part of the journey.
I’ll also continue working while I travel, taking jobs around the country as the route progresses.
So T700 is becoming much more than a pub crawl.
It is a 60-day electric road expedition around Great Britain, created through GreenStripGuide.com and The Green Strip Guy — a chance to test the car, the equipment, the route planning and myself before the much bigger adventure ahead.
With more than 10 cups of tea a day on some days, there will have to be a little strategy involved. Normal Twinings in the morning, decaf Twinings in the afternoon & no doubt one or few trips to the facilities!
705 pubs. 705 cups of tea. 60 days. One electric VW e-UP!.
Travel is what drives me.
